The Williams Fw14, Fw14B and the Williams Museum
Well, Hello and Welcome Back to that blog.
Today I have found some videos about an era I really appreciate in F1 that are the late 80's and early 90's. Specially 1990, 1991 and 1992 wich was Nigel's Year without any doubt.
Of course, I have to recognize I have a special feeling with those cars, because where driven by Nigel Mansell and as well because they are with the ones he achieved a lot of succes, but.... as well, I find them particularly cute.
The videos I would like to show you today, are about some of the bests Williams Formula 1 cars ever produced.
The first one is about the Fw14 passive version (talking about the suspension, they were passive, not active ones like the ones used in 1992). This is a rare fotage and here we can see the firsts tests of the car in the pre-season testing in the winter of 1991. As you could see, a big part of the car is painted in white and you probably may remember that painted in yellow. Well, that is because until middle season Williams couldn't close a deal with Camel to be sponsoring the 80% of the car. So don't worry if the car looks a bit different to you.
So, as you can see, reliability was something the Williams team was searching. And actually I have to say, after middle season they couldn't find it. So it was pretty frustrating for the team, the cars were leading and then.... the semi-automatic gearbox just blown up! That was the biggest issue of 1991 for the team and the main reason why they failed to win the Championship.
The next video is the First part of a documentary about next year's car, the Fw14B, the car for the 1992 season. I found it interesting even I have to recognize I haven't finished to watch even the 1st episode.
As you can see here, this car adapted the active suspension, so it makes the car even stronger in the championship battle. And Nig5l Mansell won the firsts 5 races of the year that year (record!!) , won 9 races from 16 wich was another new record and 14 of 16 pole positions. Patrese, he's team mate, won 1 more race. So it is quite impressive, isn't it?
And the last but not the least video, is about visiting the Williams F1 Museum, and it is quite fantastic! So I recomend you madly this video. Is awesome. Enjoy!
